Ashley Davenport - Young Life South Arlington

My Journey
After much prayer and waiting God has confirmed that He has called me to serve as the next Area Director on Young Life Staff in Arlington, VA. Please know that ministry in Topeka was not easy to leave. I loved my kids and community a whole lot, but God has shown me that this is where He is calling, and though the transition is bittersweet, I am looking forward to the new opportunities set before me.

After serving on staff for three years I continue to be in love with this ministry and its heart for young people. For I am indeed the product of people that carried out the heart of Young Life's mission without the title. As I look back over my life I can name countless people that stepped into my world and sought me out so that I could know Jesus. They were there for the good, the bad, and the ugly. They were faithful ambassadors and I cannot imagine my life without them. I am forever grateful for their sacrifices and know that I would not be the woman I am today without their labor of love.

My goal is to be like them. My goal is to raise up other leaders to be like them. They are my role models and encouragement as I rally a group of believers in Arlington, VA to do the same thing they did for me so many years ago. How amazing would it be to have other young people just like me that are walking with Jesus no matter their vocation or location equipped with the tools and foundation necessary to run the race set before them in Christ for the long haul?

I believe that it is possible because that's my story. I am passionate about young people and believe that God is as well. I am particularly passionate about the body of Christ employing their gifts and talents to disciple the next generation of young people. I believe that adolescents can get the gospel. I believe that they can change our world. I cannot imagine another group of people I would rather invest my time and life into. I cannot wait to see the harvest. My prayer is that God would do something inceredible in the lives of teens in this city.

"SO BEING AFFECTIONATELY  DESIROUS OF YOU, WE WERE READY TO SHARE WITH YOU NOT ONLY THE GOSPEL OF GOD BOUT ALSO OUR OWN SELVES, BECAUSE YOU HAD BECOME VERY DEAR TO US.
"
-1 THESSALONIANS 2:8

CONTACT WORK Because kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care, Young Life leaders show they care by going where kids are, meeting them as they are, and believing in who they can be. Within Young Life we call the persistent going out into the world of kids “contact work.” But kids just call it friendship.
CLUB We like to think of club as a “party with a purpose.” It’s controlled chaos that’s almost impossible to describe, but kids know it when they see it. And before the party ends, we share a simple message about God’s love for them. After all, that’s what the celebration is all about.
CAMP Kids consistently tell us that Young Life camp is the best week of their lives. How else would you describe a week where deep relationships are forged in the midst of mind-boggling fun and you hear the greatest love story ever told?
CAMPAIGNERS Campaigners is a weekly gathering for kids who wish to learn more or grow in their faith through study, service and leadership. We’re with kids for the long haul to help them take the first steps of faith with unconditional love. Along the way, we encourage kids to celebrate their faith through participation in a local church congregation.

Our goal is build upon this foundation by fortifying our structure in a way that makes ministry sustainable for the long haul by building up our committee, recruiting more leaders, and further training our existing teams.
REACHING EVERY KID
While we are serving serveral young people in our city we still have the opportunity to grow. South Arlington is the home of over 24,000 young people. We hope to grow ministry into the remaining 3 schools in our area.
